Comments from the 2009 EAC People's Choice Award

Great

ian bell (29/11/2009)

People and backlight, what more can an artist want? Excellent composition with a sense of London's bustling energy.

Peter Wadsworth (28/11/2009)

The starburst reflection at the right of the picture seems to focus the shadow and architecture perspectives very well indeed.

Ronnie Woodhouse (28/11/2009)

I like the way the perspective in this painting is emphasised by the shadows.

Zak Woodhouse (28/11/2009)

Reminds me of Fargate in Sheffield.  Great!

Joanne Woodhouse (28/11/2009)

I just love paintings with figures, movement and shadows Well done !

elsie smith (28/11/2009)

Bien fait. J'aime les couleurs!

Chris Ward (27/11/2009)

This captures a snap shot of the sea of humanity that passes through large cities everyday.  It makes me wonder where are they going?  What are they doing?  The technique is lovely, it perfecly captures the very essence of a crisp, clear day when I believe many cities are at their best.

caz evans (27/11/2009)

well done Les,the shadows are great .I didnt know Stewart frost was in picture, only joking.Great picture. Paul Marsden(26/11/2009)

paul marsden (26/11/2009)

Feels like im walking towards them!  Great painting, reminds me of the fast paced city life.

Juliet Crowther (26/11/2009)

It captures my journey to work in the west end, nearly every evening for ten years. No day was ever the same but they were equally as interesting, each one a different crucible of light, people and incident.

Andrew Stanley (25/11/2009)

Well done Les! Really like what you've done! The shadows are fabulous and yes, the hidden person is very intriguing.

Rachel Forrest (24/11/2009)

I particularly like the composition of this painting with the extra shadow that makes you look for the mysterious person behind the man in the red jumper. I love the light, the length of the shadows and the difference in speed and intention of the pedestrians. I want to know who is together, what the big man is thinking/saying and, most of all, what is the red stuff in the carrier bag that the man with the fabulous star on his shoulder has? It is such an ordinary, every day scene, if it had not been captured you would not think twice about it, yet it poses so many questions that it becomes fascinating. Great.

Wendy Stanley (24/11/2009)

I enjoyed looking at this picture - the buildings and street the personality of the people - the effective use of shadows make it real.

Patrick Horn (23/11/2009)

I love the different buildings, the contrast between the stone and glass is great.

wendy martin (21/11/2009)

A painting that makes you want to know who the people are and where they are going. The attention to detail makes you feel there are people inside the buildings already at work. I bet you're glad you gave up your day job to produce work like this . Congratulations

SYLVIA LANGAN (21/11/2009)

The architectural perspective makes me feel as though I am back in London.

anthony carroll (20/11/2009)

Manage to change my vote from 3rd to 1st.  See previous comments! Glad you got there. thank you for persevering! (editor)

Karen Hague (18/11/2009)

Love how you capture streets and particularly like this busy scene in London.  You can almost feel the two on the left (man and woman) brush by as they hurry along.  Confused about the voting system as all I can choose is 3rd for you which is definitely not deserved.

Karen Hague (18/11/2009)

Very striking.

Judy Evans (18/11/2009)

A great evocation of Everyman - and I like that you can see their faces.  Never mind about the correctness of shadow: artistic licence!

Victoria Ham (16/11/2009)

Great composition, but as the sun was behind I think the figures should have been in  deeper shadow, in particular the faces. Well done.

Fred Elwell (10/11/2009)
