a great painting - love it

The Black Country made Grey !   very evocative of the smoke and smells of industry.   Not sure about the dominance of the bridge on the left foreground.   Well done.

Patrick Horn (02/05/2011)

Brooding, enigmatic, disturbing.  A most interesting and strangely beautiful picture, the recession in particular executed with great skill.  Colin Hayes

Colin Finlay Hayes (12/04/2011)

This picture also took me back to 1950's childhood in a similar area. I feel as if the figure represents ME, returning now much older, remembering the chimneys, the smog and the  canals with their curving bridges. The picture demands that the viewer reads a story of the polluted water, the greeness of nature carrying on in spite of industry and the working communities now long gone in a much changed world.

I was born and bred in the black country in the 1950s,very atmospheric of those times, Brilliant subject,a step back in time. a worthy finalist. Dave Hindson(29/03/2011)

A hauntingly beautiful picture. Is it a real place in real time?

sian harrison (30/03/2011)

This is an amazingly beautiful painting. One wonders about the narrative and the meaning behind it. It really is suspended in time. A truly gifted artist. Nan Edwards

Superb. There's such a stillness to this picture. Where is the man in the old fashioned hat going? When is it?…early morning yes….but 1930s…or now? Brilliant.
